A memorable trip

We began our journey at 10 pm on the 11th.

It should take us an average 11 and a half hour to reach Hatyai. But due to the festive reason, we were held back at the immigration check point for an hour or so. Anyway we reached Hatyai well afternoon on the 12th . The pre- water festival mood was already on and locals were seen out preparing their stalls and water containing facilities. We had dinner at the HERE KUI Seafood Restaurant.

First day of activities; water festival day (New Year day 13-4-07)

The tourists, the locals, the hashers irrespective where they were from, enjoyed the once a year water festival. This was a serious celebration, the loud disco music in front of most of the established hotels; people dancing, ecstatically enjoying the music; people rushed to the street. Irrespective of whether friends, strangers, foreigners, or locals, they sprayed to one another with water guns or buckets of water. In the mist of water spraying, we seemed to bless one another and wish a prosperous future for one another. All of a sudden, we felt that we were one people.

Second day of activities; Songkran Hash Challenge 2007 ( 14-4-07 )

A kind of treasure hunt concept was organized for the 4 groups of us to experience hatyai in perspective starting with riding “ Tutu “ cars to a fishing competition in an established fishing pond cum restaurant, followed by a trip to the Kwanyin Hill, and a temple of forgotten name. There were a number of questions to be answered and a few actions were to be done, for instance; a biggest fish or most number of fish caught; certain funny items need to be purchased. That was fun and the main idea was to cover most of the tourist spots. Prize giving and dinner was at the WEST SIDE SALOON, and that was an enjoyable evening.

Verdict: That was a fantastic organization and a memorable one. The water gun fighting really brought us back through the time tunnel to our childhood days, and good food, never ending flowing beer and of course the charming ladies of Hatyai almost ensure our return next year. This would not have happened without the conscientious effort of our GM, cocker, the Thai permanent resident.

Well done, GM and Thank You!
