Tour de Malaysia

Hi everyone,

Adventure is the meeting of dreams and reality

Well, a dream came through, cycling on racer bike from Malacca north through central Malaysia , right to the Thai boarder. On route I made a “little detour” to Fraser’s Hill and the Cameron Highland , both on the east road, this is seldom travelled.

One day on the bus and one on the train made 7 days of cycling, totalling 848 kilometres and amazing 8400 altimeter. And I am 65 years old!

I wrote a very short e-mail already about the trip to a few selected fiends. But some expected an usual detailed travelling report in English. Well, here is the write up …

Hi everyone,

Well, a dream came through, cycling on racer bike from Malacca north through central Malaysia , right to the Thai boarder. On route I made a “little detour” to Fraser’s Hill on the east road, this is seldom travelled. Because of small road conditions and heavy lorry traffic, I decided to take one day on a rattling local bus to Gua Musang, a cross point of my trip. From there a 170 km, 8 hrs ride in poring non stop rain brought me up to Rantau Panjang a boarder town.

Another 20 km and I reached my northern point of the trip, standing in Thailand and looking at the South China Sea . It was an overwhelming moment. From Kota Baru, a 7 hours ride on a shaky local train through the heard of Malaysia , brought me back to Gua Musang.

Then came the highlight, cycling up the new east route to Cameron Highland . A very lonely 110 km stretch with a lot of up and downs totalling 2800 Altimeter. With a steep climb up to Bukit Brinchang (2032m), the highest by road accessible point of West-Malaysia, and a two and a half hours downhill ride without pedalling, I finished my adventures trip in Ipoh . The trip took 9 days. One on the bus and one day on the train makes 7 days of cycling, totalling 848 kilometres and amazing 8400 altimeter. To describe what I all saw and experienced would fill a story book.

Attached find a few photos from my photo handy, a map to show the routs taken and for GPS freaks also the track records (gdb file).
