Rehashed Run No: 1634; Occasion: Vaisakhi Run; Hares: Yogi Bear/Utom Singh; Date: 18th April, 2006; Runsite: Ong Hin Chiang Estate, Machap Baru.
Malacca Hash House Harriers is a mixed multi national, multi racial and multi religious hashing club. It celebrates Hari Raya, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Vaisakhi yearly. As such, it was of no exception for Run No.1634. It was organized by its Sikh members, namely, Yogi Bear, Utom Singh, Pramjit Singh and Inderjit Kaur in conjunction with the Sinhalese New Year which fell on 14th April, 2006.
The scheduled runsite of this run was supposed to be at Tebong which is situated in the outskirts some 30 km east of the Malacca city. It is not a regular hashing runsite.
Looking forward anxiously for the run, my partner and I departed early from home for the said scheduled runsite by following the direction in the newsletter. However, a short distance before arriving at the scheduled V-junction, we saw an MH3 sign pointing to a road on the right towards Durian Tunggal and followed it. It was another 1-km drive before we arrived at the changed runsite at Ong Hin Chiang Oil Palm Estate by the left side of the road. The time then was 5.10 pm. Other than a few estate workers, only Yogi Bear and Utom Singh were there. Yogi Bear was seen smiling away while enjoying his bath at a water pipe. We were glad to see him back in one piece after backpacking to the Golden Triangle of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for 11 days. Utom Singh was seen lingering around topless in his sexy shorts. Apparently they had just returned from laying paper for the run.
As time passed by, more hashers were seen trickling in. Among them were Bombastic, Dr. Tan, Dr. Pandirajah, Chee, Rubbish Bui, Ah Keow and her friend. Similar to Yogi Bear, Rubbish Bui was also seen smiling away happily while relating to us his sweet encounters during his 11-day backpacking trip to the Golden Triangle. Luckily he had also returned in one piece.
It was at 5.35 pm that Ah Keow, her friend, my partner and I started following the paper on a laterite road into a matured oil palm plantation as early birds. The sky then was cloudy with cool temperature. Hardly 300 meters away on the right, we encountered the first simple false trail. A spread-out search was conducted. The connecting paper was found by Ah Keow some 50 meters away ahead. By then, we were being caught up by other early birds Bombastic and Dr. Tan. It then proceeded abreast the Durian Tunggal road, down a gentle slope and up a rubber hill for 25 minutes before hitting the second and last false trail. It was quite a tough check. In spite of a spread-out search, we could not find the connecting paper. It was then that we saw the sudden appearance of hare Utom Singh. To our surprise, he told us that we had followed the back trail on the right instead of in trail on the left at the first false trail. He then led us into an oil palm plantation on the right where we found the connecting paper. From then on, it was a plain sailing run cum stroll zigzagging through the bushy and undulating terrains with the guidance of Utom Singh. On the way, we met energetic front runner Dr. Pandirajah who was being closely pursuit by guest Ambah, Kiasu Lee and Tan Yan Lye from the opposite direction. Surprisingly, for reason not known, the usual seasoned and energetic front runner Dennis The Menace was no where to be seen. Most probably he was having his monthly menstruation!
As we proceeded further towards the runsite, we met another pack of in-trail runners coming from the opposite direction. Among them were Helen, Nancy, Chee, Dr. Iqbal, Hawaii Goh, Peter, Killer Tony and Sexy Chan. Definitely they were surprised to see us running from the opposite direction. The last in-trail runner whom we met was none other then ex GM Vibrator. Other then his busy business schedule, I was told that he had encountered problems in finding the new runsite due to the last minute change.
It was a medium and leisure run through the scenic oil palm and rubber plantations. Only a deep ditch needed to be crossed towards the end of the run. It was made easier with the assistance of hare Utom Singh who gave a helping hand to pull us out. And it was truly a Bengali Run which we started from the back trail instead of in trail!
It was at 6.50 pm that we had finally arrived back at the runsite where the beer wagon and a big pack were waiting and engaging in cock and bull stories. Other then cold beer, the famous toddy from Tebong was also served. Yogi Bear was seen busily clicking away with his digital camera. Clearly missing from the scene was our great website master Websitekang whose beloved mother had passed away peacefully on 14th April, 2006 at the age of 88. In conjunction with that, he had kindly donated RM 500 to MH3. In return, we would like to convey our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to him for her demise and our thanks for his kind donation. .
Hash circle was conducted by GM Garfield. As usual, all the four hares of the Bengali Connection were put on ice and on-downed together with a number of sinners who included two sweeties from Texas, USA who were here on vacation. They were none other than Jennifer and Melissa. The former is the daughter of Dennis The Menace and Carol. We hope they had enjoyed the run and our fellowship. Do feel free to join our run again whenever they are in Malacca.
It was at 7.40 pm when we saw the sudden appearance of Vibrator who was panting and sweating profusely. It seems he had the problem of finding the new runsite, arrived and started the run late and was forced to climb over the locked high fencing gate on his return. Luckily his balls did not get stuck. Otherwise Dr. Pandirajah and Dr. Tan would have to find their replacement from the cattle. And just imagine how he would be running with his new balls with the hash after that! Anyway, for his untiring good efforts, he was given an on-down.
On-on was held at the popular Mei Yuen Restaurant in Machap Baru. It was well attended with 4 tables. A 7-course delicious Chinese food which included wild boar meat was served with free-flowing cold beer. Once again the hares and some sinners were on-downed. It was a grand celebration. The atmosphere was exhilarating. The food and drink were on the Bengali Connection. The crowd had only started to call it a night at 9.30 pm with full tummy, clear mind and smiling face. Thousand and one thanks for the good run, good food, good drink and generosity. Happy Vaisakhi! On! On!
