Scribe For the Annual Road Run No:1602
on 6th September 2005

This road run was impromtu. It replaced a run in which the hare Ah Kiew could not make it on time. It means there was not enough time for those serious runners to practise for a better record of time. Anyway, the Committee headed by Simon Seow did a good job in arranging a new route and runsite for this event. It was at the front of the Orna Resort where there was ample of parking space and the route was away from the heavy traffic as compared to that of our previous route at Tony's place. The hare Seng Fatt and Simon had marked the distance every km on the track and the paper trail was unmistakenly clear such that an accidental detour would not happen like what it did last year. The distance was also more correct this time and measured at 10.01 KM. That was a job well done!

By 6 pm, about 40 hashers already gathered at the run site, adrenalin flowing, ready for the great race. As mentioned in my last scribes, this annual road run was more or less our annual medical check up for the stress test, at our own risk. After the usual group photo snapping, at 6 pm sharp the GM signalled the run and off the pack started the race. Utom Singh dashed out like a deer. " Hey tomy boy, it is a 10km run, not so fast, it is still a long way!" I yelled. However within a Km or so, I quickly overtook Utom who seemed to be walking. I dragged on my heavy body and felt a bit sluggish in the run as frankly speaking I was not running very much this day. NKS was far in front of me. This young man who was one cycle of lunar calendar year younger considered unofficially a challenge to be ahead of me. " Hai, let it be! I have to watch up for my heart!" I talked to myself. Meanwhile just enjoyed the pleasant scenery along this new route.

At 3 km, harriet Lynn was catching up. She was at my back pushing or motivating. Suddenly, adrenalin flowing doubly I soon overtook NKS and the run was much faster until at 8 km, then Lynn surpassed me. My next target was Bui who was walking at times but he finally picked up again and sped away. I completed the run clocking at 1 hr 10 mins. That was ok. After the run immediately called my wife " Hey dear, still alive, 1 hr 10 mins " " Good enough! " my wife sighed with relief more for my okay.

Hash circle was soon set up and prizes were given away to the first three runners as follows:- Animal Kingdom, Ranger, and Drugbuster. On down and sitting on ice was as usual to the winners and the sinners. After that all were to adjourn at a restaurant for On On.

I did not join the On On as I could not find the restaurant. You see, it was a mix up. The restaurant was mentioned by Visva as Lau Seng behind an Indian temple at Bukit Bruang. A Chinese restaurant pronounced by an Indian and a Chinese trying to find an Indian temple was really a hassle. Sexy Chan who was in the rescue in the phone did not help much and as the traffic was heavy at the back with my fading eyesight looking at the front, I gave up and returned home. It proved that running 10 km was easier than finding this mysterious restaurant.

Back home, my wife was surprised to see me home that early. " Why so early today? " " I could not find the restaurant! " I replied. " Taken your dinner??" " Not yet!" " What do you want to eat? " " Maggie mee soup will do! ".

" Ah Soh, cook a bowl of Maggie mee soup for uncle." she yelled at our maid at the back. " A hungry man is an angry man! " I seemed to hear what she said while I was walking to the shower.

The result of the run is as follows ( though most ran 3km and turned back ):-
