This run was fixed at Tehel where it was a long time that our members hadn't run there. The hares were
Au Kiat, Debbie and myself. We started to lay the papers at 2.30pm and Debbie couldn't make it and instead Kennies was invited
by Au Kiat to help. Au kiat brought along a high tech gadget called GPS by Etrex. GPS means global positioning system using
four satellites to track the path within plus minus four meters accuracy.
We started to walk along the East side and after a while turned North and Au Kiat was more interested to play with his toy.
" Kiat, actually we should have recced last Sunday" I asked cautiously. " No need, this GPS would give you an accuracy of plus and
minus 4 meters" Au Kiat answered. Kennies was sceptical about that all the time. " you see, four satellites are guiding us all
the way" Au
Kiat flashed the gadget to me. " Waw! It is good that at least you play with this kind of instrument once in a life time!" I
exclaimed. It was actually very convenient for me to just follow them throwing papers all the way. Kennies did not believe
the GPS but his sense of direction which was equally bad. Until we reached a 4km bench mark we entered a durian plantation but
could not find a way out as it was securely fenced up. That was the trouble, the GPS did not tell you whether there was any fence.
Well we had to turn back and picking up the papers back was a pain in the arse.
We had to detour and this time we headed to the direction leading to the Bomban highway, and Au Kiat wanted to get to the highway
and let hashers run back to runsite along the highway. I objected as I did not want to compromise the safety of members with
this kind of trail where it was nervous to see cars speeding along the highway. So we had to go along the perimeter of the highway
but inside the plantation. we reached a Papaya plantation. " we must cut across the papaya plantation, otherwise we would be
close to the in trail" Au Kait said. Trusting his sense of direction and not believing Au Kiat's GPS, Kennies insisted to go
around the papaya plantation. " The papaya plantation owner may get parang to chase you! " Scared! Ok lah lets follow.
" Alamak! I saw the incoming papers! " Kennies exclaimed. " I told you it
was near, my GPS said so." Au Kiat said. What to do now, and it was a bit late. " never mind, we don't join the papers and leave
it like that. Kang, you come back with your Pajero and joined it about 6.30pm " they said. Ok lah, the chief said so.
After having taken my shower and happily I came back to the runsite at 6.30pm. What! most of the runners were already out. The plantation gate
was closed and my Pajero could not go in. I was Fxxx upside down. " What type of run you all set! no need to join the papers
, they joined for you already. the incoming runners could see the outgoing runners!" "No lah, Au Kiat using four satellites to
navigate the trail and cannot be so screwed up!" I said defensively. Au Kiat finally came to rescue. " kang, you had better
ask someone to fetch you by motobike to join the papers. Don't listen to them, these are SCBs. otherwise we will be in trouble."
Quickly, I requested GM to fetch me by motorbike to join the papers. Au Kiat was right, there were seven real hashers who religiously
followed the papers and completed the run. They enjoyed it and the time taken was about 1 hour 15 mins which well within our
GPS calculation. The seven real hashers were Bui, Mike, Dr Iqbal, Sam Prasad, Gerard, Dr Dave and Kemmy. well Done! The rest were
SCBs and talked too much.
After On On from the restaurant, Sen Fatt, and Tony pulled me aside and said " next time you want to set a run, call us, no need
GPS lah! " I quipped.
