Scribe for Christmas RUN

According to the historical records available, Christmas was first celebrated on January 6 according to the old Julian calendar. The day was also observed as an official Roman holiday starting from A.D. 534. The practice was continued until when due to some disputes or other reasons, the celebration of the day was switched to the Gregorian calendar in 1743. This resulted in a change of date for Christmas celebrations, which fell on December 25. It is said that Pope Julius I chose December 25 to be the date to celebrate Christmas. According to the popular belief, the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan Saturnalia festival or the Feast of the Nativity.

So, it was not a bad idea that the Malacca Hash House Harriers picked a day ( 30-12-03 ) in between to celebrate the run.
By 6.00pm on the day, a pack of about 60 hashers had already gathered at the site next to the Ozana housing estate. Majority had entered the rubber plantation earlier whilst a handful of hardcore hashers waited for the GM to start the run.

It was a real good run starting from the rubber plantation up the hill, down the hill, through the muddy terrain, fruits plantations, along a river, and passed a beautiful lake. Little did we know that there was such a nice scenery around the area. Thanks to the hares, Robert & Mohamad. It took about 1 1/2 hr to complete the whole trail. The usual ritual of sitting on ice was carried out. At about 8.00pm, all adjourned at the New Good World Restaurant for the " On On " and a big party where 6 tables were fully occupied. The joy and the fun was there when the Christmas spirit was high and entertainment like the beauty contest was really fantastic, an idea well thought off by the co-ordinator, Marion Chung.

The fun continued with Au Kait who surprisingly turned up to be a super hash songs singer leading everybody to enjoy the fun, reminding many of us of those good old days.

The food was super, the beer free flowing, and every runner who completed the run got a beautiful T shirt. Thanks to the major sponsors, Maddie, Tim, Mike, Lynn, and Girard.

Verdict: That was a wonderful evening, with good run, good food , plenty of beer, and a nice T shirt. The party was over near 12.00pm.

My camera broke down after the run and luckily, the young ladies Evelyn and Madeline came to the rescue and many wonderful photos after the run event were taken by them, thanks a lot!
