A Family Affair

I was told that this was a second family run that MH3 had ever organised for the past 30 years. It was indeed a great success. The whole event was full of joy, fun and love with all the kids around.

I reached the run site at Stadium Hang Jebat of Krubong at 4.30pm. The stadium was very impressive but without a proper sign to show the entrance such that I had to make a long U turn to finally reach the site.

The weather was cool but cloudy. It was considered very lucky because it had been raining whole day for the past two days. At 5.15pm the pack had started to enter the trail in spite of a light drizzle. This was really a family gathering, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunties, children and grandchildren with an exciting spirit and curious anticipation. Because of the drizzle and coldness, the protective elders did not encourage the kids to run where then they were happily playing around under the shade. Only our On Doc couple with the three kids entered the trail.

On Doc & Co, Jm Pecker and I decided to take a walk through since we had been told the trail was about 5km, and Oil Rig was leading the way. Soon after,Oil rig disappeared and On Doc & Co were left behind. Viagraman overtook us and was later stuck in front of a deep canal. He dared not cross over the wooden plank. I had to demonstrate how to cross with the arms stretching out to get a proper balance. He was still scared and finally Pecker had to let him hold the shoulders to guide him through. He said he was worried about the off balance. All the way the trail was very pleasant through the oil palm, rubber plantations, and bushy trails along the banks of the canal. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to complete the trail and it was really very refreshing. It was about 7.00 pm then.

The hash circle soon started. It was laughter everywhere, and the kids were more excited to see the sinners sitting on ice, quite an experience for most of them. Hash Wip Balan lined up batch by batch for on downs; the kids, the grandparents, the parents, the grandchildren, and the uncle and aunties. It looked like MH3 were training hashers at very young age. The pack dispersed at about 7.30pm and all headed to Siang Yen Restaurant for the party.

Wow! that was quite a grand party, nine tables were fully occupied. Janet, the organizing chairlady was seen busy for the actions. Games for the kids below six, teenagers, and adults were organized. It was nice to see the kids playing around and enjoying themselves. Some of us are at an awkward age when our children are big enough to leave our nests, but the grandchildren have yet to arrive. The lonely marrried bachelors also had their own fun, Cocker, half drunken, when Janet announced: " kids below six can come up for the game", " I can come up, mine is below six inches" laughters soon followed his answer. You can't really win with these hashers around.

The food was good and the beer free flowing and everybody enjoyed very much and due to the kids had to go to school the next day , the party finished at about 10pm.

Thanks to the Chairlady and the Organizing Committee, that was a job well done.
