At 5.30pm, most of the hashers were on the runsite which was at the front of the church at Pulau Gadong. The turnout was
very good, about forty over people and surprisingly they behaved very well and started the run together at 6.00 pm sharp
after JM Dr Lingkoon conducted the warm up exercise.
As one couldn't expect much from the Pulau Gadong area, the run was quite uneventful as it started along the canal and then
crossed the highway and entered into Pulau Gadong housing estate and then cut over to Pokok Mangga housing estate and finally
went thruogh the vegetable farms and back to the runsite. The whole stretch of run took about one hour or so with the dashing
motocyclists and motor vehicles here and there. The run was actually quite stressful.
The hash circle was conducted in a rush manner as everybody was expected to take a shower and adjourned at GM's house for the
celebration of Deepavali. The one and only one indian present in the run was none other than our interhash On Sec, Visva who
had just returned from the Indo-China Nash Hash. Well done, Visva!
This run fell exactly on the day of Deepavali, and according to GM Garfield, Deepavli is a festival of lights and lights are
supposed to brighten your life, your family and your home. So Gm decided to have the On On at his house. The house is inside
the Chitty Village of Melaka at Gajah Berang. I reached there about 8.30pm, and could feel the mood of Deepavali as basically
it is an Indian village and managed to get to his through a much heavy traffic jam. Many hashers were already there and
they were from Sunday to Friday groups and indeed it was a big gathering.
The food was plenty and beer free flowing. I particularly like the curry mutton which was well cooked. " careful, the mutton
can cause high blood pressure!" Lau Pan Liang kept reminding seeing me enjoying mouthful of curry mutton. " It is okay lah,
once in a while, and it is not a big deal!". The party was jovial, and it was a good time to catch up with buddy buddy.
There is a big statue of Goddess of Mercy at the left front side of the house and it is surrounded by a ring of eight elephants.
Garfield being an expert in the Indian temple renovation work would tell stories of the statue. He also showed me the 14 dogs,
three peacocks and one monkey at the back of his house. He told me it was a 4 acres of land and that really keeps our retired
warrent officer very busy. He told me the story during our backpacking trip to Cardiff last year and only tonight I was able to
see what he meant. I left at about 10 pm with the big still remaining enjoying the free flowing beer. It was a very enjoyable
evening and many thanks to the hare!
