Rehashed Run No: 1603; Hare: Joseph Fernandez a.k.a. Alley Bully; Date: 13-9-2005; Venue: Bukit Lepok, Merlimau.
It has been a week since the last Annual 10 Km Run which had caused anxiety to some ardent hashers who were anxious to maintain or improve their time in this non competitive yearly run. Glad to note that most of us, especially ardent hashers such as Dr. Pandiraja, Tan Yean Lye, Websitekang and I were satisfied with our achievement in completing it at this virgin track in such a creditable time of around one hour. Credit should be given to hashing which enables us to run regularly anywhere and time irrespective of the terrain and weather conditions. For the purpose of cooling down, we were looking forward for a leisure run this week.
Merlimau is quite an ideal hashing run-site. However, due to its fairly far distance from Malacca town which takes one solid hour to arrive, hash runs are seldom held there.
It has been years since I last ran in Merlimau. Anxious to recollect the old running memory, my partner and I left for the run-site early. It took us one hour and quite some efforts to find it which is located at Bukit Lepok along the 7th km Merlimau/Jasin road. The beer wagon was already there with barman Mah and early birds Dr. Tan, Bui and Websitekang. Later we were joined by Bombastic, Au Kiat and Hash Cash Ah Ho who brought along 4 Aussie guests from Adelaide Hash who were on their way to attend the coming 10th Pan Asia Hash in Kuching. The weather then was fine.
When the clock struck 6 and in the absence of GM Garfield who was said to be on business trip in India, the industrious Bui conducted a short and sweet warm-up exercise to loosen the muscles and bones in preparation for an unpredictable run.
The run started across the road and a ditch before entering an oil palm plantation. The pack of 10 odd runners was initially led by Bui and later by an energetic Aussie couple, Websitekang and Dr. Tan along the flat laterite road. It hit the first simple check at a cross junction 15 minutes later. The connecting paper was found a short distance ahead by the Aussie couple and joined by Dr. Tan. It continued to trudge on through the matured oil palm plantation before hitting the second and last check 10 minutes later at a T-junction on a wide laterite road. A spread-out search was conducted. It was quite a difficult check. The connecting paper was found by the Aussie harriet 5 minutes later on the left some100 meters away. However, the terrain and environment continued to be flat and serene except crossing a few small drains.
The first and only false trail appeared about 20 minutes later. It was along a wide laterite road by the side of a river. Front runners were seen spreading around to locate the connecting paper. However, it was seasoned hasher Tony Tay who found it on the right of the back trail a short distance away. From then on, it was a 2-km jog meandering on the laterite road, up and down 2 gentle slopes and a stretch of tar road along a Malay village before arriving back at the run-site where the cold beer were waiting with a pack of late comers who did not complete the run. It was a 7-km leisure run through the friendly terrain and serene matured oil palm plantation. The last runner was back by 7.35 pm. Credit should be given to the hare and co-hares Lee Seng Fatt and Alex for laying such a memorable run.
Hash circle was conducted by JM Pecker under the moonlight. As usual, the hare, the guests and the sinners were put on ice and on-downed. It was then that Ballsbreaker Emma invited participants for her coming MH3 run at Pulau Gadong and Malacca Mountain Bike Hash 2nd Duathlon Competition ride at Durian Tunggal Reservoir on 25th September, 2005. Come all out to give her your support, fellow hashers!
On-On was held at the popular Lucky Restaurant in Merlimau town. It was well attended with 3 tables. A six-course delicious Chinese dinner with king prawn was served. It went down well with cold beer and Chinese brandy. The hare was on-downed again for laying a good run and subsidizing the good food.
It was a memorable evening. We have only started to break up at 9.40 pm.
On! On!

It was Alley Bully's run. The run site was picked by On Sec Vigraman, a man of few words. The hare did not know where it was.
I was told. On Sec insisted his way and the hare had no choice but to seek the help of the local chieftains, Oily Khoo and
Tazan Ong as cohares. Sen Fatt was called in to help too. The run was in fact very well laid and lasted about 1 1/2 hours of
running and walking. It was dark when we came out but the long stretch of kampung road ensured that we could run out safely.
On top of that we had four guest hashers from Adelaide, Down Under to add in all the fun.
Date: 15th September, 2005.
The Aussie hashers were so impressed with the hospitality of MH3 and offered our members their contact point so that if any of us
happens to visit Adelaide for hashing, please contact them.
