No one failed to reach the run site in spite of our Kaiser, the son in law of Melaka, thinking that Pulau Gadong was an island.
It was indeed a very good run site with ample of parking space which was situated near Pulau Gadong Church. It makes sense as
Christmas celebrations are associated with churches. Matsalleh hashers and their invited guests have returned from their
New Year and Christmas leaves and so the pack looked a bit more internationalised. About 60 hashers turned out for this event and the evening
was hot and dry.
It was a ball breaker's run as Emmar aka Ball Breaker was the hare. The co hare was Mike. The trouble with mountain bike mixing
with hashing is that it is highly suspicious that the hare was laying papers on a mountain bike. Incidentally, Emmar is an
active member of M2BH.
The trail started on a road run with the Pulau Gadong canal running on the right hand side, that was it, we kept on running
passing some chicken farm on the left and until we reached a bridge. We crossed the bridge and got over the other side of the canal
and kept on running with the canal still on the right hand side. Before one really got bored, and luckily there was a turn and
we entered a housing estate. It must be something unusual for the hashers to intrude this quiet housing estate. Children lining
in groups to cheer us! That was not too bad. After a few turban turns in the housing estate, we finally entered an oil palm
estate through a deserted vegetable farm.
" Ah, It is much cooler here! " exclaimed James. It was true that we were under intense heat after this long stretch of road run and
it was such a relief then. The run in the oil palm was pretty comfortable mostly on laterite roads and we overshot a bit under this
" meditated state " usually happened in a long road run. We had to cross a wide drain over a piece of plank, and we had to be
careful as the drain was full of chicken shit as the farm was nearby. It was canal again after that. We have never realised that
Pulau Gadong is a place full of canals. That was it, the canals led us back to the run site.
It was at least a 10km run. Good lord, a real ball breaking run! Most came out at about 7.30pm.
The hash circle was conducted as usual with all the sinners from a new Mercedes owner Mag1 to the SCBS.
" On On " was at the Seafarer restaurant where six tables were fully occupied. The climax of the evening was that two games were played.
The first was the passing of an orange from harrier to harriet or vice versa. one had to grip an orange with one's chin and the body
and passed over to the partner. In photos, they looked like kissing pretty hard.
The other was that a husband was tested with his familiarity with his wife's kneel by touching blindfolded. Surprisingly, many failed for either
they failed to touch their wives' kneels in their entire lives or they had touched too many others' such that they were confused. It was quite
a fun and the party was called off at about 11.00pm.
Verdict: It was a run with good sweating if one really enjoyed road running. A car sticker was given and the food treat was provided
by the Christain members and the beer was sponsored by the Anchor & Co. A big " Thank You " so said us!
