A Hot and Dry Run

The run site was at Bertam Ulu again, but this time it was at the other corner, the opening area of a developing housing estate. The weather was hot and dry.

I reached the run site at 5.20 pm, a number of early birds were there and some of them had entered the trail. I met Marion, N K S and Debbie, Kaiser and Jenny. Having misunderstood that the cohare was Ho Tat Phoon, everybody chose to go in early without delay. " Tat Phoon's car is not there, the co hare could be V J " said Marion. " That is equally bad! better go in now" quipped Kaiser who came with partner Jenny soon went in. " we had better wait for a while, as no one is looking after the cars." I told Marion. Soon beer boy Mah arrived. Chee, Pramjit , Rahman, and I soon decided to go in. " Hey, J M , you had better wait for the pack if G M is absent then you could lead them. " as we were not too sure GM would be here due to the coming of the festival mood. Then Rahman stayed behind.

The trail started at the foot of the hill and we went round about it and ascended accordingly. It was a uphill run. and soon after we entered in a clearing land and uphill. No checks, nothing and we kept on running, entered a rubber plantation and at a high point, the paper trail suddenly stopped. It was a false trail. It was at this point, we wasted a lot of time. Tim and Chee went in front to check and Pramjit and I went left to check. There was a family staying in a shabby estate house. Trying to ask from the members of the family, we had actually been fooled by them. They pointed the opposite direction and denied the correct one, and on top of that hassled us with the existence of tiger in the estate. At this time all the runners had caught up with us and it was Batu Api and Au Kiat who went ahead the way where we were fooled and stopped to proceed. " On on ", the pack soon followed. Mary caught up with me, and had a little gossip with me. " The two brothers in that house shared a wife." said Mary. " How do yoy know?" I asked. "Oh! I know the brother, the family is a bit weird." answered Mary. I see, anyway, it makes economic sense! " They say there are tigers!" " yes, ten years ago." said Mary. Very soon we had to go down a rather deep ravine and climbing up proved to be a bit difficult. After this, it was good running all the way until we reached a 7 feet deep ditch but luckily there were small trees grown in between. Some just held the branches and swung across like monkeys. Later part of the trail was good and running on it was comfortable. We met GM on the back trail in. " What! GM , Are you scared of the trail of the co hare too?" we chorused unanimously. " No lah, I hurt my hamstring in a football match and am under recuperation." answered GM sheepishly.

We did not see any checks since after the false trail, maybe the front runners had already joined the broken trails. Anyway it was a comfortable run and we completed the run in about one hour twenty minutes and it was very reasonable. Later on we found out that the co hares were actually Mr and lady Drug Buster. It was indeed a good job well done!

The hash circle soon started. The French connection, Legionsire brought three French uni students as guests who were quickly victimised by GM. They were respectively put to sitting on ice. Legionsire quickly came for the rescue for the young French lady by offering the warm laps for her while sacrificing his bottom on ice. For not doing duties, and some mistakes, JM Rahman, Visva were habitually put on ice. In defence, Rahman said that not a single soul was around when he wanted to initiate the warm up exercise as everybody has entered the trail. As usual, the hare Melody was put sitting on ice too and she was sporting enough!

On On was at the Sin Hao Restaurant, Cheng Baru. Four tables were fully occupied. That was another bash, as somehow GM's birthday coincided with the day. Instead of a birthday cake, the pack presented him with a cucumber and two tomatos. Everybody had to taste the sliced cucumber which was actually very crunchy. Another round of on down was given to the pack and the hare. The party ended at about 10.30pm.

Verdict of the run: very well set up run without too much hassle. The food was very good and of good quality. The hare Melody was good enough to take leave in order to set up this run, in spite of having a working life in Nilai. She is our member for a long time.
