A Bus Run

The only method to get hashers this day to start at a same time and at a same spot is perhaps doing a bus run. That was exactly what NKS aka Orang Kaya Baru and Tony Teh aka Killer ( Orang Kaya Lama ) did in this run at Bukit Katil. Before 5.45pm, about 60 hashers already gathered at Tony's house and two buses arrived sharp at 5.45pm to pick the hashers not only from our club alone but also supporters from Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday HHHs since the hares are prominent figures in our local hashing community. The buses dropped us at a spot near the edge of an unknown oil palm estate some 10 km away. Josep the SCB King took the bus ride to the site and immediately followed Tony's car back upon the recommendation of the Grandmaster. Bombastic refused to run because the hares did not hire the buses from him according to the GM. ( Ha! jokes lah! ) After the usual warm up exercise, the pack soon entered the oil palm estate------now, let our Drug Buster continues with the story -----Websitekang 24-12-04.

Rehash Run No: 1565; Hares: Ngoh Kim Siah/Tony Teh Piau Chong; Date: December 21, 2004; Venue: Tony Teh's residence, Bukit Katil.

Bus run from Point A to Point B is an interesting and unique hash run practised by Malacca Hash House Harriers (MH3) for umpteen years. However, for reason not known, it has not been set for the past one over years. This has made most MH3 hashers longing for it.

At long last it was learnt during the last run that ex-GM Tony Teh aka Killer was going to lay a bus run from his residence on the coming week. As a result, it was no surprise that when my partner and I arrived at the run site at 5.15 pm there were already quite a big number of early birds there. They included hashers from Sunday, Orang Hutan and Full Moon HHHs. It was then that the hare Tony Teh was seen walking back from laying the paper with his co-hares Chan Yoke Lan and Vijay with smiling face. He said it would be an 8-km run from Tehel.

The crowd grew bigger as time passed by. By 5.45 pm it swelled to about 60 odd which included GM Danabalan, Websitekang, Robert, Dr. Dave, Dr. Pandirajah, Alex, Raman, Hawaii, Nancy, Helen, Holly and hare Ngoh Kim Siah aka Orang Kaya who did not take part in laying paper due to  his busy business schedule. We then boarded 2 buses which headed for Tehel. The atmosphere was noisy like a fish market.

It took 15 minutes for the buses to arrive at the familiar run site at an oil palm plantation. A short and sweet warm-up exercise was conducted by GM before the pack rushed into the oil palm plantation. The paper went downhill and uphill for a while before it  hit a deep drain where Au Kiat the kind soul was seen giving a helping hand to pull up some clumsy hashers. The paper then led through a bushy rubber plantation and orchard before arriving at a Malay kampong. As it was off-season, no fruits were seen on either the durian or mango trees. The kampong folks appeared surprised and amused to see such a huge pack of crazy hashers chasing after the paper.

The only false trail appeared on a bridge across a wide stream full of water after 30 minutes run. The connecting paper was found 50 meters away on the left along the stream. It hit another wooden bridge where Websitekang was seen busily taking photos. From then on, the paper continued across another Malay kampong, a fishing pond, an orchard, a rubber and two oil palm plantations before hitting the MH3 annual 10-km run track and Tan Chay Yan Scout Camp. We had finally arrived back at Tony Teh's residence at 7.35 pm where the majority of more energetic runners were already there enjoying their cold beer after the last stretch of 4-km road run. It was a 9-km enjoyable scenic run with no shortcut for the SCB. The last runners Itchibawah and Ai Fan were back looking exhausted at 8.10 pm when the sky was pitch dark.

The hash circle was conducted by the GM. It was quite well attended. Several hashers including the GM, Biggles and the hares were put on ice and on-downed. It was then that the GM announced that MH3 would be celebrating its 30th anniversary on 14-5-2005 which falls on Saturday. An invitation run will be held. Registration fees for MH3 members and members of all Malacca and out-station hash chapters are RM 50, RM 30 and RM 40 respectively. It is going to be one of the most memorable events with good run, good food, free-flowing beer, good freebies and good fellowship. So register for the run early!

On-On was held at Enliven Delight Restaurant in Melaka Raya. It was well-attended with 8 tables. Good food was served with free-flowing beer and brandy. Talented singers such as evergreen Ah Keow, Vijay and Bombastic sang their hearts out in karaoke session. Another on-down session was held. The food and drink were on the hares. The crowd started to disperse at 10.45 pm with full stomach, clear mind and smiling face. It was regarded as one of the most memorable runs and fellowship gatherings. Hundred and one thanks to you guys, hares. On-On!
