Rehash Run No: 1566; Hare: Phillippe Guillard; Date: December 28, 2004; Venue: Lendu It was the third day after the first ever disastrous tsunami hit Malaysia which has claimed more than 60 innocent lives so far. Fortunately it did not incur Melaka. Otherwise it would have caused untold problems to the hashing schedule today and made a large number of ardent hashers gloomy. Lendu is a popular hashing runsite away from the busy town with clean air, quiet atmosphere and challenging terrain. As my partner and I arrived there at 5.10 pm, we met regular early birds JM Vijay, Simon, Orang Kaya Ngoh, Oil Rig Lim and Debbie. A few minutes later, we were joined by Websitekang who requested me to write this scribe. The weather then was fine with cool and fresh air. Impatience and eagerness got the better of Vijay. At 5.20 pm sharp he started the run as an early bird by following the paper on laterite road which led uphill into a rubber plantation. He was followed by other seasoned early birds Itchibawah, Ai Fan, Orang Kaya Ngoh, Debbie, my partner and I. A short distance away, we arrived at an ostrich farm before zig-zagging uphill and downhill where we hit a false trail across a deep ditch. After a few minutes of forward and backward check, the continuation paper was found by Orang Kaya Ngoh on the left across the barbed wire fencing beside the said ditch. While back crossing it, we met industrious and ever-helpful Websitekang who was seen busily taking photos and later helped us out of the ditch. The paper led downhill along a string of uneven oil palm terraces for a short distance before hitting the first check. It was a simple check on the right along a laterite road in an orchard 50 meters away found by Debbie. As it was off-season then, no durian and duku were seen on the trees except some water melons on the ground which were being harvested by a father and his young daughter. They appeared surprised and amused to see us chasing paper on the road and not in the class! The paper continued down a slope into another drain before going up hill into an oil palm plantation. It then led to another laterite road, up and down a bushy and hilly rubber plantation before hitting the road where late comer Andrew was seen making a back trail run and Laughing Buddha was seen arriving in his Volvo car with a charming guest. We were back at the runsite a short distance away at 6.25 pm where the beer wagon was waiting. It was a moderate 5-km scenic run. It took super runner Tan Yan Lye only 31.24 minutes to complete the run. The charming guest was the last runner to emerge alone at 7.40 pm when the sky was pitch dark while the concerned hare was in the process of organizing a search party. Hash circle was attended by a moderate pack of 20. It was conducted by Vijay in the absence of GM Danabalan who was enjoying his 2-week honey moon with Biggles in downunder New Zealand. As usual, for his efforts in laying such a moderate and sweet run after conducting 2 surveys, he was put on ice and on-downed. On-On was held at the favourite hash Siang Yen Restaurant in Cheng Baru. It was well attended with 3 tables. The food was good. Each table was given 4 bottles of beer by the hare. For his good efforts, good run and beer, he was given another on-down. Thank you, hare! The year 2005 is approaching in 2 days. On this auspicious occasion, my partner anmd I would like to take this opportunity to wish every hasher a Happy New and Happy Hashing! On On! The hills are alive with the sound of ' hashing ', and it was indeed quite true when the hare Legionsire set the run site at
the foot of the Satellite hill at Lendu. ' on on ' shouted around, laughters of the hash circle and " Gosh! ", even the the
firecrackers were heard from here and there. The usual quietness and tranquility of the desolate area was suddenly invaded...
