Rehashed Run No: 1628; Date: 7th March, 2006; Hares: John Marshall/Mary Josephine; Runsite: Krubong
Krubong is one of the popular hashing runsites in Melaka. Tucked away in the outskirts of the city 12 km away, it is covered with matured oil palm, rubber and fruit plantations with moderate terrains which are ideal for hashing.
It was a sunny and hot Tuesday afternoon. For the purpose of shedding some sweat, breathing some fresh air and fostering fellowship, my partner and I arrived at the familiar runsite at the oil palm plantation of Bertam Estate at 5.00 pm. Except 4 cars which belonged to Mary, Vijay, Rubbish Bui and Dr. Tan, not a single soul was seen there. Their owners, except the hare Mary and co-hare Vijay, must have gone in early as early birds.
As elderly and slow runners who intended to complete the run early without causing undue problems such as getting lost, my partner and I chose to go in early as early birds at 5.10 pm. We followed the paper on the right on a laterite road into the matured and cooling oil palm plantation. A short distance away, it hit a deep ditch which is quite easy to cross. It then proceeded through the bushy path of undulating terrains, across a stream and a few deeper and tougher ditches before hitting the first check in the oil palm plantation some 40 minutes later. It was quite a difficult check which took us some 10 minutes to find the continuation paper on the right a short distance away. Until then, we still have not caught up with any early birds.
The paper continued to zigzag through the undulating terrains of oil palm for the next 10 minutes before hitting another deep and difficult ditch. It was while crossing it that we were caught up by early bird Bombastic. We continued to trudge on for another 20 minutes before hitting the second and the last check placed on the stump of an oil palm tree. A spread out search was conducted. It was then that we were joined by other early birds Oil Rig Lim, Pramjeet Singh and his partner. Oil Rig Lim was the one who found the continuation paper a short distance away on the right across a deep ditch which led to the home trail. While strolling, we were engaged in conversation on current hot issue of petrol price hike and cock and bull stories.
The home trail was quite lengthy. Similar to the in-trail, it trudged through the bushy and undulating oil palm and rubber plantations and across a couple of deep ditches. It was along the way that we were overtaken by a few fast runners namely, Denis The Menace, Tan Yan Lye, Kiasu Lee and Peter Looi. And it was at the last deep ditch that we gave our helping hands to pull up Utom Singh and Laughing Buddha. We arrived back at the runsite at 7.35 pm where the beer wagon was waiting. After that, more runners namely, Websitekang, ex GM Vibrator, Carol, Helen Lee, Holy Leong, Capt. Tay, Dr.Dave, Hawaii Goh and Nancy were seen trickling in. It was a long and tedious 10-km run which led to some runners grumbling. Simon, the last runner, was back at 8.10 pm when the sky was dark. For obvious reason, it was certainly a great relief to his other half, Maureen!
Hash circle was well attended. It was conducted by JM Dr. Iqbal and ex GM Vibrator in the absence of GM Chinnatambi. As usual, the hare, co-hares and a few sinners including Carol were put on ice and on-downed.
On-on was held at the popular hashing Siang Yen Restaurant. It was well-attended with 4 tables fully occupied. A 5-course Chinese dinner was served with 2 bottles of beer per table on the hares. They were on-downed once again for setting a memorable run with good food and drink. A big Thank You, hares! On! On!

It has been weeks since I last wrote an MH3 scribe. It was due to nothing else but sheer laziness of a retiree. However, the thought of sharing the MH3 hashing activities and enlightening its website with the rest of the hashing world has spurred me to write again.
