A Killer’s Run

Rehashed Run No: 1631; Hares: Killer Tony/Sexy Chan; Date: 28th March, 2006; Venue: Lendu

It has been months since the hare Killer Tony laid his last run on rotation. A veteran hasher and an ex GM, he is known to lay long and difficult run without reccee which makes fellow hashers tired and scary. As such, a mere mention of his run is enough to make them shiver and their balls shrinking. In spite of that, knowing the character and spirit of most ardent hashers, it does not scare them away. On the contrary, they are ever willing to take and enjoy the challenge!

Lendu is a known scenic runsite with tough and hilly terrain. Coupled with the known hare, my partner and I arrived at the runsite early with the intention of starting the run as early birds. Only 2 cars belonging to the hare and Vijay were seen there. However, only Vijay was seen lingering around banging his balls. The hare must have gone in early to lay the paper. Very soon we were joined by Websitekang, Bombastic, Dr. Pandirajah, Ah Kiaw and her friend. The atmosphere then was cool and cloudy.

It was at 5.10 pm that Vijay, Bombastic, my partner and I left the runsite as early birds. We followed the paper on a laterite road on the left into a matured oil palm plantation. As usual, we took a casual walk and engaged in grandfather stories. Half way up a slope we saw a herd of some 20 cattle standing and watching in front of us astonishingly. They must be wondering what the hell these crazy and good for nothing chaps were doing there! Upon approaching them nearer and on seeing my partner holding a walking stick, they started to run away helter-skelter thinking that we were escapees from the Tanjong Rambutan Mental Hospital!

The first simple check appeared at a T-junction after a 20-minute tiring uphill walk. A spread-out search was made with Vijay going north and me turning left. A few minutes later, I heard the shouts of ‘On! On!’ from Vijay and made a reverse. On the way, I met my partner and Websitekang who had just caught up with us. We followed the connecting paper down a steep, slippery and bushy slope full of barbwires in the rubber plantation slowly for some 20 minutes until we arrived at the foot of an oil palm plantation. From then on, it was another tedious 10-minute walk up a laterite slope where we were caught up by Dr. Tan.

The second simple check was found by me on the left of a junction. The paper continued to trudge on zigzagging up and down the sloppy laterite road in the oil palm plantation. By then, Vijay and Bombastic were already out of sight ahead of us. Except for the sound of mild thunder in the sky, the atmosphere continued to be cooling. Until then, we were yet to be caught up by any scheduled runner.

The third check appeared some 15 minutes later at a cross junction. It was a simple check found by Dr. Tan on an uphill slope on the left a short distance away. It was then that we saw the sudden appearance of Laughing Buddha and a guest runner from the right on a laterite road. According to him, they did not follow the paper from the in-trail but cut in through the satellite station nearby. From then on, both of them joined us for the walk through the undulating terrain for the next 15 minutes.

The fourth and the last check appeared at a multiple junction. It was quite a difficult one. Its connecting paper was found by me a short distance away on the left after a spread-out search. From then on, it was a home trail going downhill in the oil palm plantation and uphill into a bushy rubber estate where I met ex GM Vibrator who was running in the opposite direction from the back trail as he started the run late. After being told by me that it was a long and tough run, he said that he would make a reverse run at the last check for which he did. A short while later while staggering up a mild slope, I was caught up by the topless front runner Dennis The Menace who was being closely pursued by 3 young guest runners and veteran Dirk who had just recovered from his leg injury. For reason not known, seasoned energetic front runners Tan Yen Lye and Kiasu Lee were being left far behind this time.

It was a fairly long and tough 8-km run. My partner and I had finally arrived back at the runsite at 7.00 pm sweating profusely from head to toe, but feeling relaxed and satisfied. More runners trickled in as time passed by. In appreciation of our untiring and solid support, each of us was rewarded with a beautiful green T-shirt by the hares.

Hash circle was conducted by GM Chinnatambi. Other then the big MH3 turnouts, in attendance was a big pack made up of hashers such as Lim Tian Han from the Sunday, Orang Hutan and Batang chapters. As usual, the hares, the sinners and a few guests were put on ice and on-downed.

On-on was held at the nearby Dimension Restaurant. It was fully packed with 6 tables. A delicious seven-course Chinese dinner with free-flowing beer was served. On-down sessions were held. The atmosphere was exhilarating. The food and drink were on the hares.

It was one of the most memorable runs and nights. The crowd had only started to disperse at 9.40 pm with full tummy and smiling face. A big thank you to Killer Tony and Sexy Chan for the well organised run and their generosity. On! On!
