Rehashed Run No. 1678; Hare: Dirk Limann a.k.a. Kaiser; Date: 20th February, 2007; Venue: Balik Bukit.
Balik Bukit is a virgin runsite for MH3 which is situated some 16 km south-east of Malacca city. The road leading to it is quite complicated. It turns left, right and centre.
As such, it took quite some efforts for me and my partner to arrive there at 5.30 pm after starting from home early. Later I was told that it also happened to a number of other hashers. The only other early bird who was there then was none other then Dr. Lingkun. Very soon we saw the emergence of hare Kaiser from the south smiling after setting the run accompanied by his partner Jenny and two co-hares. Upon being asked, he said it was a simple run which took them 1 ½ hours to set.
As old cocks and slow runners who did not want to be left behind and in the absence of rigid GM Cocker, my partner and I started the run as early birds a few minutes later. The
paper led north on a laterite road for a short distance before turning right on a tarred road along a river beside a rubber plantation. Some 15 minutes later, it hit the first tricky check behind a house. A spread-out check to the front and right was to no avail. The connecting paper was only found by me a few minutes later in the rubber plantation some 100 meters on the left of the back trail. It trudged on for some 10 minutes before hitting the second simple check beside a drain. Its connecting paper was found some 50 meters across the drain beside the new Malacca – Merlimau highway. It then proceeded for hardly 20 meters where it hit the first and only shortest and tricky false trail. By then we were being caught up by front runners Dr. Pandirajah, Hot Link, Dr. Lingkun, Strawberry and Dr. Tan. A spread-out search led to the finding of its connecting paper on the left of the back trail some 200 meters away before the second check by Dr, Pandirajah. It then continued to meander through the laterite track for some 15 minutes before hitting the third and last tricky check at a cross junction. On the way we were overtaken by Pramjit Singh and late starter Vibrator who wished us Happy Chinese Year. Sorry no Ang Pow (red packet) was given to him as he is not longer single as Biggles had just returned.
The last spread-out check was conducted with most of the runners heading straight and left. Its connecting paper was found by me some 150 meters away on the right near a herd of 4 cattle. They stared at me surprisingly after hearing me shouting ‘On! On!’ From then on it was another 20 minutes of unobstructed run through the rubber plantation, along a river, passing by a housing estate, going up a gentle slope through an oil palm plantation and finally cutting across an open bush before arriving back a the runsite where the beer wagon and the hare were waiting. The time then was 7.00 pm. On the way, we were overtaken by Biggles who had just returned from holiday in New Zealand before meeting Laughing Buddha and Edarjit Kaur who were having a leisure stroll from the opposite direction.
It was a good run of some 7 km at a new runsite with flat terrains. A big handshake was extended to the hare for his good efforts. More runners trickled in as time passed by. They included JM Killer Tony and Sexy Chan. The last runners comprising Hawaii Goh, Nancy, Helen, The Stud and Bombastic were only back at 7.50 pm when the sky was dark. Led by Bombastic, they were said to have followed the wrong trail at the last check.
In the absence of GM Cocker, a simple hash circle was conducted by JM Killer Tony. The hare and a few sinners were put on ice and on-downed. It was then announced by him that the coming run on 27th February, 2007 would be a Chinese New Year run. It would be held near his residence at Bukit Katil. So don’t miss it, fellow hashers!
On-On was held at a Chinese restaurant in Melaka Raya which saw 3 tables fully taken up. Delicious Chinese foods were served in open air at the back lane. More on-down sessions were held for the hare and the sinners. The foods were on the hare. The crowd had only begun to disperse at 10.40 pm after an enjoyable night. Thanks, Kaiser! See you at the coming run. On! On!

Kaiser is a pioneer hasher who started running with MH3 since its formation in May 1975. Since then, there is no turning back for him. He used to attend the run quite regularly whenever he is in Malacca. Come last Tuesday it was his run which was announced a week earlier during the hash circle. As such, every one of us were looking forward anxiously for it.
