Rehashed Run No: 1684; Hare: Committee Run; Date: 3rd April, 2007; Venue: Gapam.
Committee Run is a yearly run organized by the Mismanagement Committee of MH3. Its present committee is made up of GM Cocker, JM Killer Tony, JM Dennis the Menace, Interhash Sec. Bombastic, On Sec. Chickadee, Asst. On Sec. Carol the Twin Tower, Hash Cash Laughing Buddha, Asst. Hash Cash Horlicks, On Doc. Band Boy, Web Master Websitekang, Auditor Kemmy Chua and members Pecker, Camel Lok, Sexy Chan, Helen of Troy, Vibrator, Dr. Lingkun, Kiasu Lee and Strawberry. As it is always a well-organized run, it used to attract a big turnout.
It was of no exception on last Tuesday which was a rainy day. On arrival at the runsite early with my partner, there were already quite a big number of early birds there. Among them were Dr. Pandirajah, Oil Rig Lim, Rubbish Bui, Tongkat Ali and Bombastic. They were seen eagerly preparing for the impending balls-shrinking run which was set by Killer Tony accompanied by Sexy Chan, Chickadee and Hotlink.
Gapam is a popular hashing runsite situated along the Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road which is some 20 km east of Malacca city. It is covered with oil palm, rubber and fruit plantations with fresh air which is ideal for hashing.
In view of its anticipated long and tough run coupled with our old age, my partner and I set out for the run as early birds at 5.30 pm by following the paper on the left on a laterite road into a matured oil palm plantation. As it was after a late afternoon heavy downpour, the paper was wet and difficult to locate and the ground was muddy and slippery which made our walk difficult and slow. A few minutes later, we were joined by Bombastic. While walking, we were engaged in exchanging cock-and-bull stories.
It was after a short distance that the paper went down slope into a bushy track on the left. For the purpose of avoiding the undulating bushy terrains, we did not follow it. We took an anticipated shortcut by continuing our walk on the laterite road on the right. Some 10 minutes later, we hit the continuing paper at a T-junction which headed right across 2 bridges along a river for another 15 minutes before hitting the first complicated check. A spread out search was conducted. It was then that we were joined by scheduled front runners Dr. Pandirajah, Strawberry and Dennis the Menace. The connecting paper was then found by Dr. Pandirajah a short distance away on the right of the back trail across the river. It was joined by kindhearted Bombastic for the back runners.
The paper then continued to proceed across some bushes into another oil palm plantation for some 10 minutes before hitting the second simple check which was guarded by 2 barking dogs. By then we were caught up by a few back runners. Among them were GM Cocker and Rubbish Bui. Its connecting paper was found by the front runners on the left a short distance away. It was dutifully joined by GM Cocker.
The third and last simple check appeared in another oil palm plantation after crossing a durian plantation. The durian trees were flowering with sweet smell. Like the previous check, its connecting paper was found nearby on the left by the front runners. It was joined by me. A short distance away, it turned left again and headed towards the home trail. The time then was 6.40 pm.
It was another solid 50 minutes hectic walk cum jog before arriving back at the runsite. On the way, the paper passed through an oil palm plantation, Kampong Solok Saut village, a hilly and bushy rubber estate before arriving at Kampong Ulu Duyong village along the Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road which is some 1.5 km to the runsite on the left. While walking cum jogging on the long stretch of busy tarred road with heavy traffic, we were overtaken by late starters Capt. Tay and Peter Looi and closely followed by Websitekang and SYT. The last runners arrived back at the runsite at 7.25 pm. Among them was none other than late starter Vibrator.
It was a long and hectic run which made us sweating profusely. Its distance is assessed to be longer than 8.2 km recorded by Killer Tony’s GPS. As reward to our untiring efforts, each of us was given a beautiful black T-shirt.
A short and sweet hash circle was conducted jointly by GM Cocker, Dennis the Menace and Bombastic. It was attended by some 30 hashers who included a few guests. A number of sinners were put on ice and on-downed. It was then announced that the hares for the coming run next week would be Mary and John. Its runsite is at the abandoned Peacock Farm along the Ayer Keroh – Durian Tunggal Road which is another popular hashing runsite. So don’t miss it, fellow hashers!
For the first time, On-On was held at a Korean Restaurant in downtown Melaka Raya. It was well-attended by some 50 hashers. Delicious Korean food was served with free-flowing beer. Another on-down session was held which saw more sinners being on-downed. Industrious Websitekang was seen busily clicking away photos with his digital camera for posting in the website for our peeping. The food was on Dennis the Menace and the beer was on the club.
It was a memorable night. The crowd had only started leaving at 10.30 pm with some adjourning to the nearby bar for another drink. Well done, Mismanagement Committee and thanks Dennis the Menace. On! On! See you at the coming run at Butterfly Farm!
