A Short And Sweet Run

Rehashed Run No: 1689; Hares: Simon Seow (Vigraman)/Maureen Tan (Moon Face); Date: 8th May, 2007: Venue: Paya Tanjong, Umbai.

Vigraman and Moon Face is a loving couple who has been with MH3 for umpteen years. As veteran hashers who attend the weekly run regularly, they prefer casual walk rather than hectic run.

Last Tuesday was their turn as hares. The run was set at an unfamiliar runsite at Paya Tanjong, Umbai which is situated in the vicinity of Long Chuan Chinese Temple along the busy Malacca – Merlimau Road some 15 km south of the Malacca city. As expected, it had attracted some 30 plus hashers who included a few guests.

It was at 6.00 pm when, on the instruction of GM Cocker, JM Dr. Linkun conducted a short and sweet warm-up exercise to loosen our muscles before setting out for the run led by Barry, Ranger, Rubbish Bui and Utom Singh. They were being followed by JM Dr. Linkun, Carol the Twin Towers, my partner and I, GM Cocker, Kiasu Lee, Killer Tony and Sexy Chan who were enjoying our brisk walk. Clearly missing was energetic runner Dennis the Menace who was said to have stuck in his work at Petronas. The paper led east on a tarred road into a village for a short distance before turning right into an oil palm plantation. After passing by 2 cattle farms some 20 minutes later, it hit the first and only check at a cross junction which was found and joined by the front runners. Its connecting paper then proceeded straight to the south. From then on, it was another some 40 minutes walk cum jog through the oil palm plantation, Kampong Paya village and Taman Paya Indah housing estate before making a U turn along a 2-km busy Malacca – Merlimau Road back to the runsite. On the way, we were overtaken by late starter Biggles.

It was a short and sweet run on a virgin runsite set by the hare Vigraman with the assistance of Sharp-shooter. Its distance was 5.9 km as measured by the Killer Tony with the use of GPS. The last runner was back at 7.45 pm when the sky was dark. He was none other than ever-busy businessman cum late starter Vibrator.

Hash circle was conducted jointly by GM Cocker and On-Sec. Chickadee. Other than the hares who were missing from the scene, a number of sinners who included a few guests were put on ice and on-downed. It was then that announcement was made by Utom Singh that the coming Vaisakhi Run on 15-5-2007 would be held at the Industrial Estate, Pulau Sebang. So don’t miss this once-a-year run, fellow hashers!

Hash run without an On-On is incomplete. It was held at the ever-popular New Good World Restaurant in downtown Melaka Raya. A total of 4 tables were fully taken up. Delicious Chinese dinner was served with 3 bottles of cold beer for each table. Another on-down session was held for the hares and a few sinners. It was a marvelous night. The dinner and drinks were on the hares. Thanks. On! On!

Rehashed Run No: 1688; Hare: Bui Dai Aik a.k.a. Rubbish Bui; Date: 1st May, 2007; Venue: Taman Maju, Jasin.

Assisting The Hare To Reccee A Run

Today is Tuesday which is the hashing day of MH3. It coincides with the 15th day of lunar month which is the hashing day of Malacca Full Moon Hash (MFMH). As a member of both hashing chapters, I intend to run with MFMN which only runs once a month. However, as promised earlier, I had assisted the hare to reccee his MH3 run yesterday.

As appointed, we met at the side road behind the Sekolah Menengah Jasin at Taman Maju beside the Bemban – Jasin Road at 2.50 pm. After having a small discussion on the pattern of running trail and equipping ourselves with the necessary paraphernalia, we set out to reccee it a few minutes later.

It was a sunny day. Following the tarred road on the left southward into Taman Maju housing estate for a short distance, we turned left eastward on a laterite road into an oil palm plantation. For the purpose of identification, we marked the trail with shredded white paper. To avoid boredom, we engaged ourselves is chit-chatting.

For the purpose of slowing down the front runners, the first and only false trail was set after some 35 minutes walk. Its connecting trail was set a short distance across a drain some 150 meters away on the left of the back trail. It continued south-west into the oil palm plantation.

The first simple check was set at a cross junction some 15 minutes later. Its connecting trail was set some 100 meters ahead on the laterite road which continued in the south-west direction. A little while later, we took a short break to ease ourselves and replenish our lost sweat. While walking, we met 2 local men who were trapping birds. They appeared surprised to see us strolling.

The second and last simple check was placed at another cross junction on a tarred road some 20 minutes later after passing by a few farms houses on both sides of the road with barking dogs. Its connecting trail was set a short distance away on the right towards north. From then on, it was another some 2 km tracking back to the runsite through the oil palm plantation and Taman Maju housing estate where its residents appeared surprised to see us passing by their houses in odd dressing of colourful T-shirts, cap and hat. After changing our wet T-shirts and packing our paraphernalia in our cars, we droved to a nearby coffee shop where we each had a glass of drink.

It is a simple medium run of some 6 to 7 km through the flat terrain which took us some 1 hour and 55 minutes to set. As I will be attending the MFMH run in Merlimau this evening, Rubbish Bui will be laying the paper alone today. We hope you all will enjoy the run and On-On which I understand will be held at a Chinese restaurant in front of Jasin Stadium.

See you at the coming run of Simon Seow and Maureen Tan on 8th May, 2007. On! On!
