Rehashed Run No: 1690; Hare/Occasion: Sikh Members/Vaisakhi Run; Date: 15th May, 2007; Venue: Pulau Sebang Industrial Park.
Vaisakhi Run is one of the 4 festive runs organised yearly by MH3. The other 3 are Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas runs. They are always organised in grand scale with good run, good food and good drink which used to attract a big turn-out.
It was of no exception yesterday which was the MH3’s Vaisakhi Run day. The runsite in Pulau Sebang which is bordering Tampin, is situated some 38 km north-east of Malacca city. On my arrival there early with my partner, there was already quite a big number of early birds. Among them were Dr. Pandirajah, Dr. Tan, Rubbish Bui, On-Sec. Chickadee, Hot Link and a guest, Brooke Trotter from Manila Hash House Harriers. As usual, Chickadee was seen busily recording the attendance.
As old cocks and slow runners who did not want to be left behind, my partner and I started the run as early birds 30 minutes before the scheduled flag-off time of 6.00 pm after getting the permission from On-Sec. Chickadee.
The paper proceeded north on a short stretch of tarred road before ascending a bare rocky hill on a laterite road for some 5 minutes. On its top we could see the beautiful scenery of both Pulau Sebang and Tampin towns on the right. The paper then turned right and downhill for a short distance before entering a bushy rubber plantation. It continued to meander on bushy trail for some 15 minutes before ascending another hill where it hit the first false trail some 20 meters below its top. After a tedious search, its connecting paper was found some 200 meters on the left of the back trail. By then we were being caught up by early birds Tongkat Ali and Ramli.
The paper then turned left and ascended uphill on bushy trail for a short distance to its top before turning left and downhill again where it hit the second complicated false trail near the first false trail. It was then that we were being caught up by scheduled front runners Dr. Pandirajah, Ranger, Barry, Dr. Tan and Horlicks. A spread-out search was conducted. It was then that I saw Websitekang who had just returned from his vacation in United Kingdom, walking alone below the hill a short distance away. He looked at me when I shouted ‘On! On!’
After another tedious search a short distance away downhill on the right, instead of finding the connecting paper, I found a stack of shredded white papers which was supposed to be a check. After searching around in circle for a while, I was delighted to find some papers a short distance away on a slope which led uphill. However, it appeared to be another false trail when I saw Dr. Tan running downward towards me. Another spread-out check was conducted. It was then that I saw Barry, Ranger and Dr. Pandirajah running downward towards the foot of the hill followed by the barking of dogs a little while later. Thinking that they had found the connecting paper, Dr. Tan, my partner and I headed towards the said direction. While passing by 2 fenced-up farm houses on the right where we found the connecting paper, we were being barked by several dogs. They stopped barking at us when I barked back at them. They must have been taken aback when they heard barking from an old cock! An Indian woman standing outside with her 2 young children smiled at me. On being asked, she told me that we were at Kampong Sawah which is some 1 km away from the Pulau Sebang Industrial Park. From then on, it was another 10 minutes walk cum jog on a flat tarred road before arriving back at the runsite at 6.40 pm where the beer wagon and some front and non runners were gathering. On the way, we met some local youths jogging from the opposite direction.
It was a complicated run of some 5 km at a virgin runsite. As such, a number of runners were seen coming back to the runsite from the in-trail after encountering problem in finding the connecting trail. Among them were Killer Tony, Sexy Chan, SYT, Hawaii Goh, Nancy and Ramli. The last runner was back at 7.30 pm when the sky was falling dark. A check with its hare Utom Singh who set the run with Pramjit Singh later confirmed it. He promised to set a better one at the same runsite when his run comes up in near future. So let us look forward for it, fellow hashers!
A festive run without a hash circle and an On-On is incomplete. The former was held at the runsite where the hares and the sinners were put on ice and on-downed. The latter was held at the nearby Mesra Baiduri Restaurant, Taman Baiduri, Pulau Sebang. It was well-attended with 5 tables. A six-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with free-flowing cold beer. It was followed by more on-downed sessions on the 3 Sikh members namely Utom Singh, Pramjit Singh and Edarjit Kaur and the sinners. The dinner and drink were on the 3 musketeers. For MH3’s record, Websitekang was seen busily clicking away pictures with his digital camera. Besides, he also related to us his encounter with those barking dogs which stopped barking at him immediately after he shouted at them to shut up in English during the run and his recent trip to London where he re-visited Bayswater, London where he had his famous roasted duck rice which made my saliva flowing when I recollected my sweet memory of my first taste of it during my backpacking trip with him, Garfield and late Wong Sing Sang to Interhash 2004 in Cardiff in mid July 2004.
It was a memorable run and occasion. The pack had only started to disperse at 9.45 pm. Thanks, hares. Happy Vaisakhi! On! On!

The photos unfortunately did not turn up well at all. It was too late to realise my mistakes, and I managed to salvage a few of them. My apology.
