A Climb to a virgin jungle within the city

Rehashed Run No: 1691; Hare: Capt Tay & Holly Leong Date: 22nd May 2007 Venue: Bukit Beruang.

Who says a hash run cannot be set in the city? not for Holly and Captain Tay who had shown the ingenuity and creativity in setting a virgin jungle climb within the city.

I went to the run site, a no entry road at shop lots near Multi-media University on time with the help of Sleeping Beauty and Sampa Bui through mobile phone. It was very confusing at the traffic lights junction of IPK, with such a heavy traffic and impatient drivers that I had overshot and made a few detour turns. Anyway, I managed to catch up with orthopedic surgeon Dr Dave’s warm up exercise which naturally gave you a detail warm up for every piece of muscle and bone.

The run began with the climb of Bukit Beruang at the back of the run site, passing a “ Grand Canyon “ of Bukit Beruang, a pass with the steep rock faces looming into the sky, imaging that the American cowboys might gallop along with it. Next was the real climb of Bukit Beruang, which was actually a virgin jungle. The pack was already vanished from my sight and Dr Dave, Kemmy and GM were with me. It must be a 1000 ft in height that the climb was steep and slippery. I learned that later the hare Captain Tay did have a fall and the Co-hare Hawaii Goh had sprained his ankle during the recce of the run. However, it was exhilarating as the weather was cool and the jungle leaves were refreshing. It took us almost an hour to re emerge to civilization and the Telekom Micro wave station was on sight. The downhill path was tarred but very steep and by then the long lost soul Gerard caught up and we went down to Taman Musaffa where a number of bungalows were very impressive. Later path was a city run which went through the Pantai Hospital, the Instana, the Science boarding school, and Taman Ayer Keroh where we passed by the GM’s great castle. The hares did a good job in putting through the lanes of residential areas, avoiding the heavy traffic of the Ayer Keroh Highway. It was almost 8.00 pm by the time we reached the run site.

The hash circle was a brief one and the generous GM presented the T-shirts for Gerard and the organizers of the Vasahki Run. After that the pack adjourned at the Pin Kee restaurant nearby and On sec Chickade was the MC conducting all the hash rituals. Four tables on the hares were fully occupied with the laughter bursting out every now and then. The party was over well after 11.00pm.
