A Well-Set Enjoyable Run

Rehashed Run No: 1699; Hares: Dr. Davekumar a.k.a. Band Boy/Kimmy Chua; Date: 17th July, 2007; Venue: Tehel.

Dr. Davekumar and Kimmy Chua is a loving couple whom I have known since early 1991 when I first ran with the MH3. As veteran and devoted hashers, they used to attend the weekly run regularly in spite of their busy work schedules.

As announced in the last run, their joint run came up yesterday at Tehel which is a popular hashing runsite some 20 km east of Malacca city. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout.

It was another fine Tuesday afternoon. On my arrival at the runsite early, there were already a big number of cars parking on both sides of the road. Among their owners were Bombastic, Killer Tony, Dr. Davekumar, Dr. Pandirajah, On Sec. Chickadee and GM Cocker. As Killer Tony could not be seen around, it was confirmed that he must have acted as co-hare as told to me the previous week by Dr. Davekumar. However, my balls were not shrinking this time as I have great confidence of Dr. Davekumar’s ability in preventing him from setting a long run and guiding him to set an enjoyable run in stead.

Like previously, as oldies, my partner and I sneaked out for the run as early birds at 5.35 pm. GM Cocker might have noticed us, but decided to close one eye knowing that we are old, stubborn and slow runners who pose a risk of getting lost if we were to start the run at the scheduled time of 6.00 pm.

We followed the paper eastward on the right of the runsite into a matured oil palm plantation. After zigzagging left, right and centre through the undulating terrains for some 20 minutes, it hit the first tough check on the down slope in a young rubber plantation. It was then that we met a group of earlier birds led by Bombastic and Mary searching for the connecting paper frantically. After some 10 minutes spread-out search, it was finally found by Tongkat Ali some 100 meters on the left across a barbed wire fencing. As early birds, we did not join the paper.

The paper then led north into an oil palm plantation, a fruit orchard and across 2 concrete bridges on 2 rivers for another 15 minutes before hitting the second and last tough check. A spread-out search was conducted. By then we were being joined by a pack of front and scheduled runners who included Strawberry and Denise the Menace. Its connecting paper was found some 100 meters away along the first river on the back trail.

From then on, it was another some 45 minutes of uninterrupted run through a mixed fruit orchard in Kampong Lubuk Kasar and an undulating oil palm plantation before arriving back at the runsite where the hares, a big pack of front and non runners were enjoying their cold beer.

It was a medium and enjoyable run of some 7 km. It took the hares 2 hours to set with the assistance of Killer Tony. The last runner, late-starter Vibrator, was back at 7.10 pm when the sky was still bright. Handshakes were extended to the hares and co-hare for their good efforts.

Hash circle was conducted by GM Cocker attended by a big pack of some 60 hashers which included some guests. As usual, the hares and the sinners were put on ice and on-downed. It was then announced by Dennis the Menace of his coming joint run with his partner Carol the Twin Towers at Bertam Ulu on 24-7-2007. As it is predicted to be an interesting run, so do not miss it, fellow hashers!

For the first time, On On was held at the nearby 5-stars Orna Restaurant. It was well-attended with 6 tables fully occupied. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner which included shark-fin soup was served with lucky draws. Another on-downed session was held for the hares and the sinners. The food was on the hares.

It was a good run and memorable night. The crowd had only started to disperse at 10.15 pm, as usual, with fully tummy and smiling face. Thanks, hares!

See you at Bertam Ulu!

On! On!
