A Memorable Challenging Run

Rehashed Run No. 1721; Hares: Danabalan (Vibrator)/Lynn Holland (Biggles); Date: 18th December, 2007; Venue: Durian Daun, Lendu.

Vibrator and Biggles are a loving couple and active hashers who have been running with MH3 for umpteen years. Come last Tuesday it was their joint run on rotation. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout.

Lendu is a popular hashing run-site situated at the outskirts some 30 km north of Malacca city. It is covered with oil palm, rubber and fruit plantations with fresh air and hilly terrain which offers a good challenging run. It was a last minute change from the scheduled run-site of Peacock Farm, Air Keroh which was announced by Vibrator during the last run.

It was a cool and cloudy afternoon. As usual, my partner and I arrived early at the run-site which is situated on the right side of Lendu – Masjid Tanah Road. Only 2 cars belonging to the hare and Bombastic were seen there. Their owners must have left early to set the trail which had been recceed (surveyed) by Vibrator 3 days earlier.

As oldies and slow runners, we started the run as early birds at 5.00 pm by following the paper along the road towards Lendu for a short distance before turning left into a fenced-up young oil palm plantation. On the way along the road, we met Asst. On Cash Horlick who smiled at us while driving towards the run-site. The paper then led uphill on bushy and undulating terrains along the barbed wire fencing for some 15 minutes before turning left and crossing a ditch into a durian plantation. It then proceeded further uphill for a short while before crossing another ditch into a rubber plantation. From then on, it was another 20 minutes of tough and tiring climb uphill before arriving at the Digi mobile phone communication tower which is situated on top of the hill. It then went downhill on a tarred road for some 50 meters before turning left downhill on a bushy track into a rubber plantation where it hit the first easy check at a clearing. Its connecting paper was found on a track near a motorcycle some 100 meters away on the left. As usual, as early birds and to avoid sitting on ice later during the hash circle, we did not join the paper.

The paper continued to meander downhill through the bushy rubber plantation for the next 20 minutes before hitting the second and last tough check at another clearing at the fringe of an oil palm plantation. A spread-out search within the radius of 100 meters was conducted for some 30 minutes to no avail. It was then that we were being caught up by a big pack of scheduled runners who were made up of, among them, Barry, Ranger, Dennis the Menace, Pecker, Chee Chin Seng and Anpa. Another spread-out search was conducted which resulted in Barry finding its connecting paper in the oil palm plantation on the left some 250 meters away a short while later. The paper then led through another short stretch of oil palm and rubber plantations before arriving at a tarred road in a Malay village. From then on, it was another some 2 km run on the tarred road back to the run-site where the hare, co-hares Bombastic and May, and a big pack of front and non-runners were gathering around the beer wagon. The time then was 7.00 pm. Handshakes were extended to the hare and co-hares for setting such a challenging run of around 6 km. The last runners were back some 20 minutes later when the sky began to turn dark. As reward to our support, we were each given a beautiful table calendar by the hare.

Hash circle was conducted by GM Cocker. It was well attended by a big pack which included a few guests. It saw the hare, co-hares and the sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

For the purpose of enhancing fellowship, On On was held at the nearby Dimensi Restaurant. It was well attended with 6 tables fully occupied. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with free-flowing cold beer, whiskey and wine. Another on-down session was held for the sinners and hare for his birthday. The dinner and drinks were on the hares. It was then announced by GM Cocker that the coming Christmas Run on 25th December would be held at the Butterfly Farm, Air Keroh. As it is a unique run, runners are advised to be at the run-site early. Beautiful T-shirt will be given which should be worn while attending the On On later at the Equatorial Hotel in Melaka Raya. As it is a grand celebration run with good food, free-flowing drinks and a lot of freebies, guest fee is set at RM 80.00. So make sure you attend it, fellow hashers! See you there.

It was a marvelous night. The pack had only started to disperse at 10.00 pm with fond memory. Thanks hares and Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and enjoy your vacation in Down Under! See you at the 15th January 2008 run.

Hi Au Kait,

It is ok with me to contribute to the Christmas run, but I will not be around. So pay later, lah.

I was disappointed of this weeks run of Balan. I came purposely earlier back from Ipoh to be able to attend the run. Checked in the morning the WEB site which stated the run will be at the peacock farm between toll gate and Durian Tungal. But I was searching in vain for sign boards. Then I recalled Balan saying a few weeks earlier, that he might change the location to Ayer Salek. But it was to late and to far to drive there. So I ran frustrated one round at Bukit China. Has the change of location be missed out or has reached TT to late in order to amend the WEB site?

Answer from Webmaster

All hares,

Your change of run venue/schedule should reach me as early as possible to update the website accordingly to avoid any disappointment. In this case, unfortunately there was no feedback to me whatsoever at all.

The tool ( website ) is there. It depends on how you wish to use it!
