INAUGURAL RUN OF MALACCA SUNDAY HASH HOUSE HARRIER &
HARRIET (MSH4)
Hashing is a wonderful pastime which enables people from all walks of life and nationalities to mingle, run and socialize together. It first began in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1938. Since then, it has spread like wildfire throughout the world. Currently there are some 2,000 hashing chapters world-wide.
Malacca is one of the most active hashing States in Malaysia with its first chapter Malacca Hash House Harriers (MH3) founded on 13th May, 1975. Since then, in spite of its small size with a population of some 600,000, its hashing has grown to 7 chapters namely, HAA Malacca Sunday Hash, Batang HHH Melaka, Malacca Hash House Harriers, Orang Utan HHH, Malacca Hash House Hazards, Hash House Harriers Kota Melaka and Malacca Full Moon Hash House Harriers with a membership of around 50 to100 each. Except Malacca Sunday Hash, Malacca Hash House Harriers and Malacca Full Moon Hash House Harriers which are mixed chapters, the rest are man-only chapters. Other than Malacca Full Moon Hash which runs once a month on the full moon day which falls on the15th day of lunar month, the rest run once a week on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The year 2008 is an auspicious year for Malacca Hash. It saw the birth of its 8th chapter by the name of Malacca Sunday Hash House Harrier & Harriet (MSH4) on 13th January, 2008. As shown by its name, it is a mixed chapter which runs weekly on Sunday at 5.30 pm. Its Mismanagement Committee is made up of the following members:

It was a sunny Sunday afternoon. Its inaugural run No.1 was held at a popular hashing run-site in an oil palm plantation adjacent to Taman Seri Bertam housing estate of Bertam Ulu which is situated at the outskirts some 20 km north of Malacca City. In attendance were a total of 49 hashers from almost all the said Malacca Hash chapters (Attachment refers). Among them were Chickadee, Speedy, Killer Tony, Dennis the Menace, Carol the Twin Towers, Nancy Low, May Low, Kwan Yim Mah, James Bond, SYT, Capt. Tay, Laughing Buddha, Uncle Lim, Garfield, my partner Wonder Woman and I. Handshakes were extended and greetings were exchanged.
It was at 5.30 pm sharp that GM Alibaba flagged-off the run after a short welcoming speech by JM Sampah Bui. The paper led northward on a laterite road into an oil palm plantation for a short distance before going upslope, turning left and went uphill on bushy path. A number of energetic runners such as Dennis the Menace and James Bond were seen leading the pack. Others were seen engaged in chitchatting while taking their own sweet time having their leisure stroll. From then on, the paper meandered left, right and centre through a long stretch of undulating terrains of rubber, fruit and oil palm plantations across a few barbed-wire fencings. It was there that we showed our hashing spirit by pulling and assisting each other up the several steep slopes and across the said fencings. The stretch lasted for some 1 hour which made us panting and sweating profusely before arriving at the Taman Seri Bertam housing estate where its residents were amused to see us crazy hashers chasing after the paper trail. From then on, it was another 20 minutes walk cum jog on a long stretch of flat tarred and laterite roads before arriving back at the run-site where a big pack of front-runners were gathering and taking their rest.
It was a well-set enjoyable run of some 6 km with no check or false trail laid by hare Alibaba and co-hare Pak Su Kong. The last runners were back at 7.00 pm when the sky was still bright.
On On was held at the nearby Taipan Live Seafood Restaurant in Taman Merdeka Jaya. It was well attended with 5 tables fully occupied. It was then that we saw the sudden appearance of Cocker, the GM of MH3, and Sexy Chan who could not make it for the run due to their busy work schedules. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with 4 bottles of cold Heineken beer for each table sponsored by generous GM Alibaba and a big box of Mandarin oranges sponsored by Laughing Buddha. In addition, another 1 bottle of cold Heineken beer for each table was given by K.S Tai, the proprietor of the said restaurant. All the Mismanagement Committee members were on-downed for their good effort in forming a new hashing chapter and setting a good inaugural run. It was then announced by JM Sampah Bui that the coming runs for this month on 20th and 27th would be held at Kesang Pajak and Air Keroh – Bemban Road respectively. Make sure that you attend them, fellow pioneer MSH4 hashers!
It was an enjoyable run and memorable night. The dinner was on the Mismanagement Committee. Thank you. The pack had only begun to disperse at 10.00 pm with full tummy, clear mind and smiling face.
