Rehashed Run No: 1578; Hares: Simon Seow/Maureen Tan; Date: March 22, 2005; Venue: Auyin Hill

Hashing is addictive. An ardent hasher will not feel and behave his normal self if he were to miss a scheduled hash run. His whole body will be aching and his mind will be groggy.
As a hasher for the past 33 years, I am of no exception. For the past 2 weeks, I have not been running hash except acting as a co-hare to assist 2 different hares in laying 2 seperate runs. As usual, hare and co-hare do not normally run while laying paper.
At long last, the time has come for me to vent out my desire to join the pack of runners again this week. As such, my partner and I had arrived early at the run-site where we met 2 earlier birds Dirk and Jenny. Without any delay, the 4 of us set out for the run by following the paper on a short stretch of tar road towards Durian Tunggal town before turning right into a long stretch of uphill laterite road. It was in a rubber plantation 20 minutes later that we hit the first check which was rather difficult. It was found by me in the bushy path downhill across a stream 150 meters away after a thorough search. By then, we were joined by Ichibawah, Ai Fun and Sam.
The paper then went across a deep ditch before ascending and going down a bushy slope and ascending again up a barren hill beside a dam where the first and only false trail appeared. It was quite tricky and was found by Sam in the oil palm plantation on the left of the back trail after an intensive spread-out search.
The second and last check appeared at the fringe of a rubber plantation on the top of a hill beside the said dam 1 km away. It was a simple check. Its connecting paper was found by Dirk in the oil palm plantation on the right side of of back trail. From then, it was a plain-sailing jog before we met back trailers Inderjit, Marion and Joseph at a junction where the paper led into a rubber plantaion on the right. Taking their words that it was a false trail, I headed straight uphill on a laterite road to find the connecting paper. It was 500 meters away that I met the hare Simon and co-hare Oil Rig Lim resting beside the home trail junction after laying the paper. According to the hare, the route I took was a short-cut. It was later confirmed by Dirk and Sam who followed the said suspected false trail which led them to an exciting walk on a fallen tree across a ditch and the side of a scenic dam. I regretted for not joining them by making a back trail.
While heading for the run-site on the home trail about 1 km away, we met late starter GM who was on his in-trail. On arrival at the run-site, we met Bombastic and Bui who returned from the opposite direction of Batang Melaka. Apparently they got lost at the first check. Super runner Tan Yan Lye was back after 46 minutes. The last runner was back by 7.30 pm. It was a fairy good 7-km run with fine weather.
Hash circle was conducted by the ever industrious GM. It was well attended with 40 odd regular hashers who included guests Lim of HAA, Govind's teenage daughter and a Burmese friend of Dr. Lincon. As usual, the hares and all the sinners were on-downed. In addition, in conjunction with the coming 30th anniversary celebration run of MH3 on 14-5-2005, the following dirty dozen diehard pioneer hashers who have joined MH3 in the 1970s and are still running actively, were given a standing ovation and on-downed:
1. Dirk
2. Jenny
3. Websitekang
4. Peter Loi
5. Capt. Tay
6. Govind
7. Bobby
8. Au Kiat
9. Helen
10. Killer Tony
11. Holly Leong
12. Maureen Tan
Congratulations and keep up with the good spirit of hashing until you drop, OTBs (Old Timer Bastards)!
On-On was held at the old faithful Seng Kee Restaurant in Durian Tunggal. It was well-attended with 4 tables. Contrary to its nickname, the restaurant neither serves dog food nor dog meat. It was one of the MH3's pioneer On-On restaurants which was full of portraits of dog of various species and characters on its wall during the olden days. The food was good. It was on the hares. Thank you, hares!
